The installation was commissioned by ARTCO, an organization representing curators from Ontario’s universities and art schools. It opened on April 19, 2011 as part of the ROM’s A-Ko: The Animal World as Seen by Students.
Project A-Ko has drawn praise for its scale, scale, and its interactive appeal. It allows visitors to draw out in pen, pencil or ink, and then bind a papier-mâché bee to a sheet of paper.
Project A-Ko was made possible by a number of grants and an Ontario Arts Council Grant of $126,000. It is, however, not free. Project A-Ko is an event. Admission to A-Ko is $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for students, and free for children under age 12.

The Anthropology and Archaeology Facility at ROM is located on the eighth floor of Royal Ontario Museum. The building features access to exhibits such as the Artifact Study Room, the Cryptology Laboratory, the Brochure Room, the Centre for Archaeological, Ethnographic and Archaeologic Studies, the Aldwych Historical Laboratory, and the North American Biodiversity Library.
Project A-Ko is open on Sundays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm until August 24, 2011. It will then be closed for about two weeks while the A-Ko exhibit is cleaned.
